Following the blast of the whistle, fans of the Blaugrana took to social media to register their displeasure with manager Xavi as the six-time winners of the competition near an exit, BBC reports.

Below are some of the comments of supporters:

@Ayesha_umer_10 intimated the former midfielder has to be shown the door for leaving De Jong out of his starting lineup

"Xavi should be sacked just for benching Frenkie De Jong."

Another user @KayPoissonOne suggests Xavi deserves to be punished for deploying players in the wrong positions:

"Look at How Good Raphinha actually is when you play him in his right position. He should have scored though. They should give Xavi 3 lashes for doing those Haram things."

@CrewsMat10 tweeted:

"Xavi is an absolute fool for not starting De Jong and Balde can’t believe this."

@imsunil189 thinks the Barcelona head coach is biased with his selections:

"Completely biased Xavi prefers only Spanish players in defence and midfield no matter what."

@FancyDiMaria corroborated the thoughts of @imsunil189:

"Xavi is a politician. Why keep De Jong on the bench just to make way for Spaniards?"

Lewandowski saves Barcelona from Champions League elimination

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Robert Lewandowski scored two late goals to save Barcelona from elimination from the Champions League in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday at Camp Nou.

The Polish forward pulled Xavi Hernandez's side level at 2-2 in the 82nd minute and then again at 3-3 in stoppage time, after Robin Gosens put the Italians ahead with one minute remaining.

Barcelona's Champions League fate is no longer in their own hands though and they still face a second consecutive group stage elimination if Inter Milan wins at home against eliminated Viktoria Plzen on October 26.
