Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona has been given a huge boost, following revelations the Argentine has settled his differences with club president Juan Laporta.

Messi left Camp Nou abruptly in 2021 amid disagreements with the Barcelona board and a financial crisis, causing a rift between the 35-year-old and the Barcelona president.

According to Barca Universal, Messi and Laporta have now buried the proverbial hatchet and settled their grievances ahead of a potential reunion next summer.

Barcelona are itching to re-sign Messi, two years after the Argentine captain left the Catalan giants to sign for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

The Catalans and Messi’s representatives have reportedly already begun talks over a potential move back to Camp Nou, with his current PSG contract set to expire in 2023.

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez has reiterated that Lionel Messi will always be welcome at Barcelona despite leaving the Catalan giants to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, Daily Mirror reports.

Barcelona has been linked with a move to bring the 35-year-old back to Camp Nou, as his current deal with PSG is set to expire in 2023.

Messi enjoyed a stellar career at Camp Nou, having scored 672 goals for the club over 17 years in the first team, winning 10 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League titles.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi’s potential return to Barcelona has been the topic for several weeks in Spain, but Xavi is seemingly uninterested in the Argentine coming back to Camp Nou.

Messi penned a two-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain last summer after ending his 21-year relationship with Barcelona, following the club’s poor financial status.

Xavi wants the 35-year-old to be left alone, with Messi apparently now back to his best following his superb performances for PSG this season.
