Barcelona bounced back from their Champions League loss to Bayern Munich in midweek as the Catalan giants returned to winning ways at the Camp Nou with a comfortable 3-0 win against Elche.

Robert Lewandowski who failed to hit the net in midweek, returned to his scoring form as the Poland striker netted a brace on either side of Memphis Depay’s effort to help Barcelona maintain their unbeaten run in La Liga.

A night to remember for Lewandowski as Barcelona go top of La Liga

Robert Lewandowski was again the star for Barcelona, with a goal either side of halftime, while Memphis Depay scored his first of the season in between.

Gonzalo Verdu's 15th-minute red card for Elche proved too costly for the La Liga bottom side as they struggled to cope with the flurry of attacks from Xavi’s men.

Lewandowski scored his 10th goal of the season to give Barcelona the lead as he beat the offside trap to coolly slot in Balde’s cross in the 34th minute to make it 1-0 in front of an excited Camp Nou crowd.

Memphis Depay would then double Barcelona’s advantage seven minutes later as the Dutchman pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beats the keeper with an emphatic finish.

Pedri also had a goal chalked off by VAR before half-time as the Catalan giants cruised to a comfortable lead at the break.

Another nice move from Barcelona. A dangerous cross from Dembele isn't cleared and the ball falls kindly for Lewandowski and the Pole converted easily for his 11th strike of the season to make it 3-0.

The win against Elche was Barcelona’s 5th consecutive victory in La Liga and takes them top of the league table, two points ahead of Real Madrid who are yet to play city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Robert Lewandowski thankful to Bayern Munich supporters

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Robert Lewandowski’s return to the Allianz Arena didn’t go as planned, but he’s still thankful to the German fans for the reception he received.

Lewandowski returned to Germany with Barcelona as the two sides faced off in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern ran out 2-0 winners on the day thanks to goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sané.
