The Guardian reported that Bayern ran out 2-0 winners on the day thanks to goals from Lucas Hernandez and Leroy Sané.

Lewandowski had numerous chances to score against his former side but failed to capitalise on any of them. Before the match, there was some speculation about the reception he would receive from the German fans.

Lewandowski spent eight years at Bayern before leaving for Barcelona. The move itself was not very civil, and harsh words were exchanged between both parties.

However, fans greeted the Polish striker warmly, even while he was training. As reported by Barca Universal, Lewandowski thanked the supporter for welcoming him back in the manner they did.

“I’m very grateful to the fans in Munich for the way they welcomed me. That was respectful, nice, and important to me. I was in Munich for eight years, not two or three. You cannot throw that away or forget it,” he said.

Lewandowski will get one more chance to get one over his former side when the two teams meet for the return leg in Barcelona in October.

Awkward video emerges as Lewandowski ignored Muller handshake before Barcelona vs Bayern game

Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski appeared to ignore a handshake with his former teammate Thomas Muller in the tunnel at Allianz Arena.

On Tuesday night, the Catalans travelled to Munich to face the German champions in a UEFA Champions League Group C clash, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Lewandowski embraced and shook hands with several Bayern players – including Sadio Mane and Joshua Kimmich – and Muller wanted to do the same with the Polish forward.
