Barcelona are looking to cut the club’s over-reliance on its former players as manager, Xavi is now set to build a new successful era at Camp Nou.

The likes of Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto were all part of the Barcelona squad when the Catalans last won the UEFA Champions League in 2015 are all set to be sidelined gradually.

According to Barca Universal, Xavi is set to place all club captains including Pique, Alba, and Sergi Roberto on the bench this weekend against Real Sociedad while Busquets is suspended.

The Barcelona coach is ready to end the old era at the club that has largely been unsuccessful in recent seasons as Barcelona failed to win a major trophy last season.

Xavi wants to build the club around new players who he believes are hungrier for success than the former Barcelona players who have tasted too much success at the Camp Nou.

Xavi calls for patience after slow start to La Liga season

Barcelona manager, Xavi has called for calm amongst the club’s supporters after the Catalans slow start to the season despite being backed heavily in the transfer window The 42 reports.

New recruits, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Andreas Christensen all made their La Liga debuts for Barcelona from the start against Rayo Vallecano but the Blaugrana still dropped points after playing a goalless draw.

Barcelona will this weekend travel to face Real Sociedad and supporters are expecting a positive result this time around against the team that finished 5th in La Liga last season.

Barcelona prepares to terminate the contracts of Umtiti and Braithwaite

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona are ready to force the exits of Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite from the Cam Nou this summer after declaring both players surplus to requirement.

Both Umtiti and Braithwaite have not been considered for selection by Xavi as the Catalans try to look for a means to offload both players to reduce the club’s inflated wage budget.

Barcelona are now prepared to terminate the contracts of both Umtiti and Braithwaite and make them free agents in order to create space for new summer signings.
