Barcelona are desperate to get Lionel Messi back a the club.

The club have reportedly opened negotiations with the player for a sensational return to the Camp Nou in 2023.

SportBible reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta had already started discussions with Messi’s representatives. The player’s representatives are led by his father and agent, Jorge Messi.

Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in June 2023, but the French club have the option to extend it by a year if Messi wishes to stay in France.

Messi has been with Barcelona ever since he joined the La Masia Academy as a teenager. He left Barcelona last year when the club were unable to afford to renew his contract. Laporta said that Barcelona owed a moral debt to Messi and promised that he would do everything he could to ensure that Messi returned to end his career at the Blaugrana.

The Mirror has reported, though, that no negotiations had started between Messi’s camp and Barcelona.

"There has been no approach from Laporta towards anyone in Leo Messi's camp or vice versa. And whoever says that is lying," the publication reported a source as saying.

Barcelona fans’ hope of seeing Argentine legend, Lionel Messi return to the Camp Nou has been squashed by the club’s manager Xavi.

The club’s President, Juan Laporta had raised supporters’ hopes after he revealed Messi still had unfinished business with the Catalan giants and could return to the team in the future.

Xavi has stated that it will be impossible for Barcelona to sign Lionel Messi as the Argentine still has a contract with Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain reports.
