  • La Liga Santander will come to a close today as Xavi's Barcelona and Villarreal collide at the Camp Nou
  • Barcelona have nothing to play for as they have already secured second place and are 13 points behind Real Madrid
  • Villarreal needs a win to finish seventh and guarantee their participation in next season's Europa Conference League

Barcelona and Villareal will meet in their final La Liga Santander games this side.

What is normally a crunch encounter between the two sides is expected to be a more subdued affair this time around.

What a win would do for either team?

Barcelona have already secured second place in the league but would like to give their home fans some reason to celebrate in the final game. Villarreal on the other hand are in seventh place and have had a terrible season domestically. The Yellow Submarines did make it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. A win will see them qualify for the Europa Conference League.

Previous results between Barcelona and Villarreal

Barcelona have enjoyed great success against Unai Emery’s side and will be looking to continue that streak. The Blaugrana have won the last won games between the two sides and will be looking to make it five this evening, League Lane reported.

As reported by SportsMole, Barcelona will be without Eric Garcia, Nico Gonzalez, Sergi Roberto, Sergino Dest, Gerard Pique and Pedri. Memphis Depay and Ronald Araujo remain doubts but are expected to feature.

Villarrea will be without Gerard Moreno and Alberto Moreno through injury. Arnaut Danjuma and Yeremi Pino also remain doubts for the game. Juan Foyth will miss the game through suspension.

Real Madrid set to clash with Barcelona in iconic el Classico rivalry in Las Vegas

Barcelona and Real Madrid will treat fans to the infamous el Classico rivalry as early as July 2022 in Las Vegas. The two La Liga giants will play each other at an exhibition game in what will be a warm-up for the new campaign.

A number of top European clubs are set to tour the United States in preparation for the new season, including Barcelona and Real Madrid. According to LiveSoccer, significant progress has been made to have the el Classico take place inside the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas as part of the pre-season preparations.

Spanish publication AS further reports that an agreement is yet to be officially reached, although there is a huge possibility that the Allegiant Stadium will host the encounter, Sports Brief earlier reported.
