  • Veteran defender appears to sympathize with former boss Pep Guardiola after Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League in a dramatic fashion
  • Alves also praises Brazilian players in the message posted on his Instagram account
  • Real Madrid started the turnaround in stoppage time to complete one of the most memorable comebacks in football history

Barcelona defender Dani Alves has posted a sympathetic message to Manchester City in the wake of their crushing defeat in the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester City were on course for their second final in as many years before Reak Madrid initiated and completed a comeback in one of the most astonishing games in history.

Alves wrote on his Instagram account that football can at times be very unlucky.

Football friends
Just like in life, there is no such thing as luck in football. Either you dominate the game or the game dominates you.

City were heavily dominant over the course of the two legs but Real Madrid used their experience when it mattered most. The Los Blancos are 13-time winners while City are still in the hunt for their maiden title.

Real Madrid lucky in La Liga title race

The full-back has in the past mentioned that Real Madrid were lucky that Barcelona didn't discover their form sooner. Madrid strolled to the La Liga title after their rivals endured underwhelming seasons.

After the return of club legend Xavi Hernandez, the Catalans went on a 16-match unbeaten spree to rise to second. They even conspired a historic 4-0 defeat of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu but it was a little bit too late to mount any challenge.

The veteran went ahead and indirectly heaped praise on the Brazilians in the Real Madrid side.

Ah, what would football be without the Brazilians?

Perhaps he was referring to Rodrygo Goes who came off the bench to breathe a fresh lease of life to Ancelotti's side. The teenager had a night to remember as he grabbed a brace to force extra time.

Guardiola brands football as unpredictable

Elsewhere, Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has broken his since after their shock elimination last night.

Sports Brief reported that Guardiola bemoaned that football can at times be unpredictable after his side collapsed at a crucial time to allow Real Madrid back into the game.

The Spanish manager remains winless in the competition since leaving Barcelona. He entered the wrong side of history by becoming the first manager to lose six Champions League semifinals.
