  • Xavi was unwilling to be drawn into the discussion surrounding Robert Lewandowski
  • The Barcelona manager acknowledged his "respect" for Robert Lewandowski but offered nothing much in terms of transfer rumours
  • The Poland international has scored 47 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season

Barcelona boss Xavi blatantly declined to answer questions surrounding Robert Lewandowski’s transfer links to the Spanish club.

Lewandowski, 33, has his current contract at Bayern expiring in the summer of 2023 and while there has been no talks of a renewal, Bayern Chief Executive Oliver Kahn said days ago that the striker would not be sold.

“We know what we have in him and we're relaxed about it. Apparently there's a competition out there: ''Who will tell the biggest nonsense story about Robert Lewandowski?'' Kahn told Amazon Prime Deutschland

However, this has not stopped sensational links swirling around claiming the Poland international has already agreed a deal to join Barcelona.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Barca's Europa League quarter-final second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.

"I respect him a lot as a player, but we focus on tomorrow's match and not potential signings. I will not say anything else about it." he said as quoted by Daily Mail.
“I understand your question, but this is not he right time to discuss potential targets.”

At the moment, Lewandowski’s future is yet to be decided, although he remains one of the world’s best marksmen.

This season for Bayern, he has continued to impress, scoring 47 goals in 41 appearances.

If he ends up joining Bayern Munich, he will link up with his former teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom he played alongside at Borussia Dortmund briefly before eventually moving to Bavaria.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will be hoping they are in better form when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt at the Nou Camp after the first leg ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Bayern exit Champions League in quarter final for second successive season

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich exited the Champions League at the quarter final stage for the second successive season after losing 2-1 to Villareal on aggregate.

Samuel Chukwueze who had just come on as a sub, scored a dramatic later goal to level the game at 1-1. The goal though gave Villareal a 2-1 advantage on aggregate, a lead they would hold until the end of the game.

Villareal will now meet the winner of the Benfica and Liverpool game in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League
