Banyana Banyana continued to chase history in 2022.
South Africa defeated Namibia 1-0 in the semifinal of the COSAFA Women's Cup at the Wolfson Stadium in Gqeberha. The goal came after a moment of brilliance from Lithemba Sam-Sam in the 82nd minute of the tightly contested encounter.
Should they win the final against Zambia, they would become the first senior or junior, men and women to hold both a continental and regional title. Earlier in the day, the Copper Queens had to work very hard for their 2-1 victory against Tanzania in the first semifinal.
The final will take place on Sunday at 3pm.

Time wasting is killing football says Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngithi has a bee in his bonnet.
Mngqithi has called out teams that partake in intentionally wasting time during matches in an attempt to neutralise a superior opponent. He called on the authorities to take a firmer stand on this negative tactic.
“I don't know whether we can see what is happening in the PSL right now. Time-wasting is playing a big role if you check the average on the time we are playing. We are averaging around 43 minutes out of 90 minutes where the ball is in play. That for me is a cause for concern because our officials seem not to be doing anything about it."
For me, this is out of order. If this thing of time-wasting in the PSL is not addressed it is going to kill our game.”
Mngqithi was speaking following a frustrating but dramatic DStv Premiership match against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. Peter Shalulile struck an injury-time winner in a 1-0 victory to send the defending champions to the top of the table for the first time this season.
