According to Sport24, SAFA's financial manager Gift Sekonde said:

"We've honoured the commitment made by the president Danny Jordaan to pay the players R400 000 that they were promised. The 23 players have indeed been paid on Friday. We made the payment with a wide smile, and we're happy to say we've honoured the promise, and the incentive was approved with a smile."

The winnings included an initial R9.2 million pot of gold that was presented as an incentive by SAFA, before the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture also opened the purse strings by adding R5.8 million to this amount.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan added:

"The bonus scheme was for the players, and the coaches will be rewarded according to their contract. Staff members get bonuses that are linked to their contracts that are separate from the players."

Bafana Bafana interim coach Helman Mkhalele admits team felt Banyana Banyana WAFCON pressure

Temporary Bafana Bafana coach Helman Mkhalele gave an interesting theory as to why his charges were disappointing last Saturday against the Comoros.

As reported by Sports Brief, South Africa drew 0-0 against the Indian Ocean nation in Soweto, advancing to the next round of 2023 African Nations Champions after a 1-0 aggregate victory.

Mkhalele reckoned Banyana Banyana's 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations triumph had overshadowed them to an extent that they were weighed down by the resulting expectation.
