Banyana Banyana's charge for undisputed dominance of the African continent has been recognised.

Six players from the national women's team have been nominated for the CAF Player of the Year award.

IOL reported that they are Andile Dlamini, Bambanani Mbane, Thembi Kgatlana, Jermaine Seoposenwe, Refiloe Jane and Linda Motlhalo. All the nominees are currently campaigning at the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations tournament being hosted by Morocco.

The six are part of a 30-player preliminary list, with the winner set to be announced at the CAF Awards which will be hosted in the host country's capital Rabat on 22 July.

Banyana Banyana are favourites to win this year's AWCON, which would be the first time in their history should they do so. They were drawn alongside co-favourites, arch-rivals and defending champions Nigeria, together with Burundi and Botswana.

They sent out a proper warning to the other contenders when they convincingly defeated the Super Falcons 2-1 in the teams' opening match on Monday night. Seoposenwe and Tholakele Magaia were on the scoresheet for South Africa, while another nominee Rasheedat Ajibade scored for Nigeria.

Banyana Banyana look to breeze past Burundi in Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group C encounter

Banyana Banyana will look to cement their place at the top of Group C when they take on Burundi in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations later today.

As reported by Sports Brief, Desiree Ellis’ side will take on the debutants who are currently bottom of the group at the Stade Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassanin Rabat, Morocco. Banyana produced a brilliant second-half display to beat bitter rivals Nigeria in their opening encounter.

The South African side survived a late scare to win the match 2-1.
