Debutants Burundi took on fellow debutants Botswana in their opening game. Botswana outclassed Burundi 4-2 to open their campaign with a win, Goal.com reported.

What a win means for either side

Banyana will secure the top spot in Group C with a win against Burundi tonight. A victory will also ensure that South Africa qualifies for the knock-out phase of the tournament, IOL reported. A win for Burundi will throw the group wide open. If the debutants beat Banyana and Nigeria beat Botswana, every side will be on three points heading into the final game.

Banyana won’t take Burundi lightly

Desiree Ellis believes that Banyana’s game against Burundi could be bigger than their match against Nigeria, Times LIVE reported. The coach said that her team need to keep their guard up to capitalise on their dream start.

Coach Desiree Ellis praised the team’s performance and shared her thoughts on the opening game of Group C of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Jermaine Seoposenwe scored on the hour mark to give the South Africans the lead, with midfielder Hildah Magaia doubling the advantage two minutes later. Nigeria would score a late goal, but Banyana hung on for the win.

Banyana Banyana have again shown they are ready to overthrow Nigeria as the Queens of Africa football after an outstanding opening game victory against the Super Falcons.

Banyana Banyana cruised to a 2-1 victory against the 9-time African champions, who were without rhythm as they were dominated for the most part of the game.

Two quick goals in the second half from Jermaine Seoposenwe in the 60th minute and Hildah Magaia three minutes later gave South Africa a comfortable lead against the Super Falcons after a disappointing goalless first half.
