The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations might be almost 10 months away, but it will be upon us sooner before we know it.

Nine teams will no longer have to stress themselves, while the rest of the hopefuls have 15 spots to fill in for the 24-team tournament that will be hosted by the Ivory Coast.

Sports Brief can confirm that, thus far, the hosts, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Namibia, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia will participate in the 34th edition of the biennial event. This is with two more rounds of qualifiers - taking place in June and September - left to play.

Bafana team manager sent off

In related coverage, Sports Brief reported that during the tense match against Liberia, the name Vincent Tseka became a household one across South African football.

Bafana's team manager reportedly swore at a match official in the first half of the key 2023 AFCON encounter at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Monrovia. It appeared Tseka he was not happy with an offside call by one of the linesmen, though the visitors had blown the chance to capitalise on the call anyway.

Namibia shocks Cameroon

Elsewhere, "minnows" Namibia proved that the concept of 'small teams' in Africa is at an end.

The Brave Warriors Namibia stunned the five-time African champions Cameroon in Dobsonville in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

This secured qualification to the Nations Cup in Ivory Coast.
