  • Doctor Khumalo has criticised Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos for the exclusion of in-form Mamelodi Sundowns players
  • Khumalo cited the Brazilians' dominance of the DStv Premiership as the basis of his criticism aimed toward the Belgian
  • He also stated his belief that only a South African coach would take the bumbling team forward into the future

If it wasn't aiming fire in the South African Football Association's direction for excluding capable individuals from its leadership circles, Doctor Khumalo was singling out a particular employee for criticism.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos earned the ire of the legend for what he feels is a muddled selection policy and unfair selection policy. This comes as many in the local football fraternity clamour for in-form Mamelodi Sundowns players at the centre of the team's dominance of South African football.

During the last international break, the exclusion of Themba Zwane and Andile Jali was a controversial matter, with some backing their exclusion, while others were perplexed by it.

According to iDiskiTimes, '16V' said:

“Our national team coach, there are certain things he can’t do. He comes into the country, you can’t take away or shy away from what Sundowns is doing, the best team ever – they have the best players ever. How do you go and play a serious match and sacrifice South Africans, not the national team and you leave out players that I strongly believe would have made a difference.
"There’s no way Ethan Brooks could play away against Ghana and give us results when Andile Jali is out there, an experienced player. But with the help of legends, masters, it would have been a difference. It would have made a difference.”

Khumalo also had a bone to pick with the mens national team as a whole for general underachievement and its slide into mediocrity. Goal reported that he believed a local coach would go a long way towards addressing this pressing issue.

Khumalo concluded:

“We have, for those who don’t understand… in South Africa, all our accolades, all that we have achieved was through our own coaches, Bra Shakes [Mashaba], remember the first coach to qualify the U23s for Olympics.
“Clive Barker, 1996, and he took us where? To the World Cup. Jomo Sono, 2002, Trott Moloto… And what did we do? We only suppressed Pitso [Mosimane] because we thought he was a failure."

Bafana coach Hugo Broos: "Andile Jali and Themba Zwane are not my type of players"

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos made an explosive comment which stirred debate among local football fans.

Speaking in an interview with SAFM, the Belgian made it clear that in-form Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali is not in his plans, as reported by Sports Brief.

Broos said that he was now focusing on giving youth the chance to shine, which explained why the likes of Jali and his similarly red-hot Brazilians teammate Themba Zwane were left out.
