As reported in an article by The South African, Hugo Broos admitted that he was shocked by FIFA’s statement that they could not find any proof that there was match manipulation on the part of Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) officially launched a complaint following the crucial game, highlighting the numerous errors made by Ndiaye.

“The proof is there, but then you have to prove that maybe Ghana gives him money or maybe he was betting on that game, and this is something we could not prove… then FIFA said the proof is not there, and we cannot accept your complaint, Broos is quoted as saying in the article.”

Maguette Ndiaye continues to make headlines for his refereeing

The Senegalese referee at the heart of the incident was at the centre of more controversy after he officiated the AFCON clash between Egypt and Morocco. Ndiaye rushed to break up a scuffle that had started between two players, only to push Munir El Haddadi out of the way. The Moroccan forward then fell to the ground holding his face, GiveMeSport confirmed. There has been no news as yet on whether Ndiaye will be investigated over the matter.

What’s next for Hugo Broos and Bafana?

With no World Cup qualifiers to play, Broos has admitted that his side will now focus on qualifying for AFCON in 2023. To do this, Bafana will take on France in a friendly in March according to IOL.

Danny Jordaan has full faith in Hugo Broos, thinks Bafana Bafana are in good hands with the Belgian coach

Bafana Bafana are in good hands with Hugo Broos at the helm. That's according to South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan who backed the Belgian coach to do big things with the national team, Sports Brief reported.

Hugo Broos took over the national team last year and has already brought in younger players into the fold. Under his watch, Bafana went on an unbeaten streak which only ended at the hands of Ghana due to a controversial refereeing decision.

With Bafana not playing in AFCON or the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, the team are in need of game time and will be competing against world champions France and Zambia next month according to IOL.
