Antoine Griezmann could play a key role in whether or not Cristiano Ronaldo are signed by Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese superstar has been pushing for a move away from Manchester United, hoping to play UEFA Champions League football next season.

With numerous clubs rejecting the chance to sign him, Atletico Madrid has become his best bet, however, some factors still stand in the way of ensuring the deal goes through.

As noted by SkySports, supporters of the Madrid side are against the club signing Ronaldo. Supporters are unhappy that Ronaldo played for their rivals, Real Madrid.

Another stumbling block is the money involved in bringing Ronaldo to the club. Atletico made have to part ways with Antoine Griezmann in order to free up funds. The Frenchman is on loan at the club from Barcelona, but there are lingering doubts about his future at the Madrid club.

As reported by Football Espana, Madrid are understood to be looking at their loan agreement with Barcelona, to see if they can find an exit clause. Freeing up Griezmann’s wage bill would give them a slim chance of signing Ronaldo.

Football Espana also noted that the club may need to get rid of another big earner to help fund a move for Ronaldo, with Alvaro Morata considered to be that player.

Atletico Madrid fans have strongly made their feelings clear on the potential signing of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with the Rojiblancos in recent days as the 37-year-old tries to force a move away from Manchester United this summer.

But a large section of their fans have voiced their displeasure at their club and have started a campaign against his signature.
