  • Atletico Madrid player Stefan Savic was seen on live television pulling Manchester City substitute Jack Grealish's hair towards the end of the teams' UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg
  • Grealish had used some rather foul language which can not be repeated for the sake of propriety and respect for the game after Phil Foden was fouled
  • Regardless, City got through the tie after a 1-0 aggregate victory, setting them up for a semifinal against Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid player Stevan Savic was seen pulling at Manchester City substitute Jack Grealish's hair in a nasty little incident towards the end of the two teams' UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg.

The tie ended 0-0, which meant that City made it through to the semifinals of the competition after winning the tie 1-0 on aggregate. The Cityzens saw off the Madrid outfit 1-0 on aggregate courtesy of a Kevin de Bruyne goal at the Eithad Stadium in the United Kingdom last weekend.

City wing Phil Foden had just been fouled near the touchline where Man City players were warming up. Looking to make the most of the collision and waste more time, Foden rolled around like he had just been shot.

An ugly scuffle ensued between Madrid and City players as all and sundry dramatised a simple foul to the visitors.

However, what ensued between Savic and Grealish will live long in the memory of those who witnessed the incident inside the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the Rosas neighbourhood of the Spanish capital, and viewers at home.

Grealish clearly used the sort of language that anyone associated with him would frown upon without hesitation towards Savic. The furious Montenegrin reacted by dragging the Englishman's hair, though he did nothing further as the furore ensued.

Somehow, Savic dodged a straight red card for his actions, as the referee had more than enough evidence to send him off with just one glance at the Video Assistant Referee. Instead, the instigator of the entire fight Felipe was shown a second yellow card for his foul on Foden, thus receiving his marching orders with a red card.

Disciplined Man City hold Atletico at home in 0-0 draw to advance to UCL semis

Manchester City kept their cool at the Wanda Metropolitano to advance to the semi final of the Champions League at the expense of Atletico Madrid.

Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Pep Guardiola’s side produced a disciplined and at times solid performance on Wednesday, April 13 to keep out their opponents on the night, reported Sports Brief.

The game was anything but easy for the Etihad club as they had to endure 90 minutes of intimidation and hostility from the Atletico fans, as well as a physical performance from the home team.
