Asante Kotoko annexed the Ghana Premier League title despite sharing the spoils with regional rivals Ashantigold on Thursday afternoon at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.

A Maxwell Agyemang header cancelled Yaw Annor's first-half strike as the Porcupine Warriors clinched the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League crown.

With three games to spare in the Ghanaian top-flight, Kotoko went into the game needing only a point to secure a record-extending 25th league crown at the expense of regional rivals, Ashgold.

Aside from the subplots of the fixture being a regional derby, the game was dubbed a battle between Yaw Annor and Franck Mbella Etouga, owing to their race for the top scorer's award.

How did Kotoko split points with Ashgold?

And it took ten minutes for Annor to draw first blood for Ashgold after he meandered his way through a sea of Kotoko defenders before rifling an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.

Yaw's goal should have opened the floodgates but a combination of poor conversion and resilient defending with a punch of inspired goalkeeping kept the Obuasi lads at bay.

And the home side were made to pay for wasting their chances as Maxwell Agyemang rose highest to connect beautifully to an Ibrahim Imoro cross in the 66th minute.

It proved to be the final strike of the game as both teams could not muster a proper attempt at goal to share the spoils at the end of 90 minutes.

Asante Kotoko records historic win in Sogakope

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that runaway Ghana Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko recorded a historic victory at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena when the Porcupine Warriors pipped West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on Saturday afternoon.

In a keenly contested affair, Cameroon import Franck Mbella Etouga scored the solitary goal to hand the Porcupine Warriors all-three points.

The Kumasi-based giants went into the matchday 27 league clash against the relegation-threatened WAFA on the back of two successive defeats.
