Mikel Arteta Reveals Real Reason Arsenal Star Will Not Be Given New Deal at the Emirates

Mikel Arteta has admitted that David Luiz's proposed departure from Arsenal at the end of the season is inevitable.

The Brazilian center-back's contract will expire when the Gunners play their final Premier League game of the season against Brighton at the Emirates.

Luiz joined the north London club from Chelsea in the 2019-20 season and had his contracted extended during the lockdown periods.

And Arteta has confessed that it was in the best interest of both the 34-year-old and club not renew his deal.

The Spanish gaffer told Arsenal's official website:

"It's after a few conversations that we had, David and I. We discussed the situation on different occasions and the other day we made the final decision on it.
"We had very clear talks in the last few months. We already had a big decision to make last year when we had to extend his contract in a very difficult moment during the COVID world, the pay cuts and everything. We managed to extend that for one more season."

Luiz won the FA Cup with Arteta in his first season at the Emirates and has so far scored goal but has endured several injury problems in the last two campaigns.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Aliko Dangote has never hidden his ambitions in buying Premier League giants Arsenal and is looking like it going to come through.

The Gunners were among the six English clubs that joined the European Super League but all have withdrawn their interests and fans are now asking questions about owner Stan Kroenke's credibility.
