  • Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed he turned down the chance to join Arsenal when he was 18
  • The Napoli star explained that former Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger tried to lure him to the Emirates Stadium
  • This season, Arsenal and major English clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United want to sign Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has stated that he had discussions years back with former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, who wanted the Nigerian striker to move to the Premier League.

So far this season, Osimhen is one of the hottest strikers in Europe through his impressive form for Napoli, with the striker also leading the Serie A goal-scoring chart.

It has now been revealed that Wenger was interested in the Nigerian when he was 18 years old, but the Frenchman was unable to convince him to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Osimhen rose to limelight in 2015 when he won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup with Nigeria and also finished as the leading scorer in the tournament.

He was an academy player then and his performances in Chile made him a target of many European sides - including the Gunners.

Osimhen reveals Wenger's Arsenal offer

“I spoke with Arsene Wenger and he wanted me to come to Arsenal but it was not the best option at the time," Osimhen stated, as reported by Complete Sports.

However, Osimhen (now 24 years old) stated that joining Arsenal would not have been the best move for his football career.

The Nigerian instead moved to Wolfsburg in 2017 and only featured in 14 games before his departure two years later.

Osimhen speaks on transfer speculation

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported on Osimhen downplaying Premier League links to English clubs, stating it would be disrespectful to Napoli to talk about possible transfers.

The Super Eagles star made this known while answering questions in Lagos, after a Nigeria fan asked him to choose between Manchester United and Manchester City.

For some weeks now, Osimhen has been linked with the major clubs because of his performances in the Serie A this season, having scored 21 goals for Napoli so far.
