  • Bukayo Saka assisted the first goal for Gabriel Martinelli in the match against Crystal Palace
  • He then scored the second goal to make it 2-0 before the teams proceeded on halftime break
  • The England star set a personal best record and also a league record with the goal and assist

Arsenal quelled any chance of Crystal Palace doing a new manager bounce on them by racing to a 2-0 lead in the first half against the manager-less club.

Bukayo Saka assisted Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli for the opening goal before adding the second himself to take his tally for the season to 11 goals and 10 assists.

In doing so, he set a record for his personal best season in the league as well as becoming the first player in the 2022/23 Premier League season to hit double figures in both goals and assists.

The England international also surpassed the goals scored by Gunners legend and former Palace boss Patrick Vieira, who was sacked days ago as the Eagles boss after a winless 2023, as reported by Daily Star. Vieira scored 32 goals, Saka's brace means he has scored 33.

Yaya Sanogo watches Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo was in attendance at the Emirates to watch the Gunners take on Crystal Palace in the London derby.

He played for Arsenal between 2013-2017 and spent 2015 on loan at Crystal Palace and won the 2014 FA Cup with Arsenal. He currently plays for FC Urartu in Armenia, having joined last month after nearly two years as a free agent, as reported by Goal.

Arsenal meet PGMOL over Saka

Sports Brief earlier reported that Arsenal met with PGMOL over the ill treatment of Bukayo Saka and how the referees can further protect the 22-year-old.

The player confirmed this while speaking after the London Football Awards where he was named the Premier League's young best player and his captain Martin Odegaard was named the player of the year.

Saka is one of the most fouled players in the division but opponents gets booked less frequently than others in the category like Manchester City's Jack Grealish and Crystal Palace's Wilfred Zaha.
