Former Arsenal and Real Madrid forward, Emmanuel Adebayor travelled to Accra for the final funeral of late Ghanaian winger, Christian Atsu.

Adebayor was friends with the late footballer before his unfortunate passing last month.

Atsu was tragically killed following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkey and Syria on February 6.

The body of the ex-Newcastle United and Chelsea player was found 12 days after being trapped under rubble.

In a video shared on social media, the 2008 African Footballer of the Year is seen arriving at the State House in all-black attire.

Adebayor wrote on social media:

"This is a sad day for me, and for all those who knew Christian Atsu. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the widow, children, and the entire family of Christian. As someone who got to meet him, I remember him as a positive man, a true lover of life, a passionate giver, and simply a kind man. You will be greatly missed. Rest well, brother."

Atsu's career saw him spend most of his time at English Premier League side, Newcastle United, which he helped gain promotion in 2017.

He played 65 times for the Black Stars, scoring nine goals for the national team.

Paintsil breaks down in tears

Sports Brief also reported on former Fulham and West Ham defender, John Paintsil breaking down in tears after arriving at the State House for Atsu's funeral.

The ex-Ghana international was a teammate of the late winger on the country's national team, where the duo created many football memories together.

Ghanaians were left in a state of shock on February 18 after Atsu's body was recovered from the rubble of his collapsed apartment, two weeks after the disaster.

Atsu's wife pays tribute

Wife of the Ghanaian winger, Marie-Claire Rupio paid an emotional tribute to Atsu as he was laid to rest following his tragic death last month.

The Black Stars player was among those tragically killed in the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6.

Atsu's body was recovered from a collapsed building after almost two weeks, before being transported to his home country for his funeral.
