No one saw it coming - early reports of Arsenal preparing a deadline-day move for Jorginho was, to say the least, shocking.

Perhaps not as shocking as Joao Cancelo ditching Manchester City for Bayern Munich was, but it is right up there as well.

Barely less than 24 hours later, Arsenal has seen the deal through as per multiple outlets with Jorginho to swap West London for North London.

Why Jorginho's move makes sense

After a closer look, the move does make sense for all parties involved. Chelsea has embarked on a massive shake-up of the squad ever since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over last summer.

New players, many of them young, have arrived at the club with a lot of promise. Jorginho has enjoyed massive game time this season, partly due to injuries to N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. He has been the fittest of all of Chelsea's midfield options.

But with Kante and Kovacic returning and with the club's enhanced pursuit of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, the Italian might find his playing time limited.

At Arsenal, he won't be expected to dislodge the double pivot of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka immediately, but the former has proven to be injury-prone of late.

Mikel Arteta has found a perfect second fiddle for his midfield options as he aims for the title.

Speaking of the title, Jorginho has easily swapped 10th place for first place with one masterstroke. Arsenal are on course to win the Premier League title and barring any major misfortunes, the midfielder could be a league champion soon.

Chelsea will lose the leadership skills of a Euro 2020 winner, but the 12-million euros or so they will rake in from the deal should appease them. For a player over 30 years old whose contract was up in the summer, that's good business.

In a nutshell, Arsenal have added depth, Chelsea has cleared the squad for a rebuild, and Jorginho has placed himself in a prime position to win a trophy this year and guaranteed Champions League football next season.

Chelsea leads the pack of the clubs to have done decent business in January, with Boehly spending close to 460-million euros in his first two transfer seasons.
