  • Martin Odegaard has managed to turn the doubters into believers with his exquisite performances at Arsenal
  • Odegaard's loan stint at Arsenal wasn't that inspiring but the Gunners decided to make the move permanent
  • Against Manchester United, he dazzled with an impressive skill catching the Red Devils unawares

Martin Odegaard's first season at Arsenal was so ordinary that it shocked a few fans when Mikel Arteta decided to make his loan move from Real Madrid permanent.

And as if that wasn't enough, Arteta immediately made the 23-year-old the club's captain after previous issues with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Granit Xhaka.

It's fair to say that the naysayers have been silenced. Odegaard has been a true revelation for the Gunners as they pursue their first Premier League title since 2004.

For a club that has never lacked creative players before, Odegaard is on his way to replicating the kind of form Mesut Ozil had during his early years in North London. Or perhaps the likes of Thiery Henry or Dennis Bergkamp once the season ends.

The Norwegian could easily have passed as the best player in the league from his country were it not for the exploits of his countryman, you know who, who scores hat-tricks for fun.

Impact at Arsenal

At Arsenal, Arteta has given him the license to roam and impact the game in a free role. He is the link-up between Arsenal's double pivot of Xhaka and Thomas Partey and the lead striker. He often drifts wide to supplement and create an overload whenever Gabriel Martinelli or Bukayo Saka are on those mazy runs towards the opponent's goal area.

The result has been a significant change in his goal returns with the skipper currently having eight goals and five assists. It is no surprise that he is being compared to Kevin De Bruyne who has anchored Manchester City to the Premier League title four times in the last five seasons.

Odegaard's skill vs Manchester United

Against Manchester United, Odegaard dazzled once again, providing the assist to the winner turned in by Eddie Nketiah.

It was his silky pass in the second half that caught fans' attention. He charged down the goal area with Raphael Varane closing him down. Odegaard then rolled the ball over his feet before lifting it up in quick succession leaving Varane flatfooted and splitting the United defence wide.

Xhaka was unable to turn in the cross, but that piece of skill was a reminder of what Florentino Perez allowed to walk away from the Bernabeu.

He could become one of the youngest captains to lift the EPL title if Arsenal can see this through.

Magalhaes mocks Bruno Fernandes

Sports Brief has also reported that Arsenal defender, Gabriel Magalhaes rubbed in his side's latest victory with a cryptic post on social media.

Fans believe the message was targeted at Manchester United's attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.

Magalhaes played an integral role to help the Gunners beat the Red Devils 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium, with the Brazilian defender having multiple run-ins with the opposition's stand-in captain enroute to a monumental win.
