  • Chelsea have hijacked the proposed Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk to Arsenal
  • The Gunners were confident of a deal before their rivals met the club's valuation of the player
  • It has now being revealed why the player made a quick change of mind despite wanting Emirates

Chelsea under Todd Boehly have been going money crazy in the transfer markets, pulling off deals with financial terms that does not prove the club just underwent a change of ownership less than a year ago.

The Blues last night bullied rivals Arsenal the deal for their primary attacking target, Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk who the Gunners have been courting for weeks now.

Arsenal days ago submitted their third bid and an improved offer for the Ukrainian forward, reported to be €95m including add-ons, €5m short of the club's valuation, as reported by talkSPORT.

Why Mudryk chose Chelsea over Arsenal

It came as not just breaking news but shocking news when Chelsea moved ahead and hijacked the deal for Mudryk, agreeing a €100m deal and the player accepting a seven and half years contract, as reported by Caught Offside.

The Gunners fans were furious that a player who spent the past weeks making public his desire to join the club could change his mind so quickly, as reported by Daily Mail.

It has now been clarified by CBS Sports as quoted by Express, that the player asked Arsenal if they can match their rivals' offer and the answer was no, insisting they are not willing to accept Chelsea's offer.

As earlier reported by Goal, the player was already determined to leave Ukraine in January and the Premier League was a likely destination. He only favoured Arsenal, he was open to any other top club.

Shakhtar tease Arsenal fans

Sports Brief earlier reported that Shakhtar teased Arsenal fans on Twitter with a series of tweets around the 22 year old before accepting Chelsea's offer for the player.

The teases were just to announce the Ukrainian Messi was the club's player of the year for 2022 and had nothing to do with an impending transfer.

It's not the first time Chelsea will hijack a deal from rivals, having also hijacked former Shakhtar player Willian's deal to Tottenham, as reported by Guardian.
