Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has reacted to claims he is replacing injured teammate Gabriel Jesus, after starting in the game against West Ham on Boxing Day.

Nketiah was given the nod to start by manager Mikel Arteta following the injury to the Brazilian forward. The English-born Ghanaian went on to score as Arsenal strolled to a 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium.

After an impressive display, some pundits believe the Gunners will not miss Jesus because of Nektiah's current form.

However, the England youth international stated his style is different from the former Manchester City player, and he is not in the team to replace the Brazilian.

“I’m not here to replace him (Jesus)," he told Amazon Prime as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

“I want to be my own player, but we all wish him well. There’s pressure any time you play for Arsenal. I think all the boys were at it today, firing, and it was nice for me to come in and contribute.

Nketiah added that while the Gunners were dominant during the game, they were lacking the last pass.

“We kept going and once we got one, we knew we’d get more, because we could feel the atmosphere behind us."

He also commented on the unity among the team and the connection with Arsenal fans, which they want to build on.

“We want to keep pushing and finish as high as possible, and we’re in great form at the moment.”

Nketiah was released by the Blues as a youngster in 2015 before joining the Emirates Stadium, where he went through the ranks to become a key figure at the London club.

The English-born Ghanaian worked with Henry during the twilight of his career, where the Frenchman often visited the youth set-up.
