Mikel Arteta's side will be hoping to keep up the momentum that saw them ascend to the top of the table going, when the league resumes. They currently have a five-point lead over second-placed defending champions Manchester City.

Against Milan, they looked comfortable for long periods of time, with a sumptuous Odegaard free kick and Reiss Nelson's strike before half-time giving them a 2-0 lead.

Fikayo Tomori pulled one back for the Italians in the 78th minute, but Arsenal held on for a win.

However, Odegaard was unhappy with Sandro Tonali's challenge on Fabio Viera. Arsenal reporter Kaya Kaynak reports that the 23-year-old walked up to Pioli and asked him to tell his players to tone it down a little bit.

The attacking midfielder was confirmed captain before the start of this season, following the acrimonious departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners will still play Juventus in the last friendly, before facing West Ham on Boxing Day.

Odegaard's scores from free kick

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Arsenal fans were left ecstatic on Tuesday, December 13, after witnessing a classic free kick by Odegaard.

After Norway failed to qualify for the World Cup, the Gunners captain got much-needed time off from football.

The English side then clashed with AC Milan in a mid-season friendly, and the former Real Madrid man was quick to show fans what they had been missing for the past one month or so.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring for Arsenal with a sumptuous left-footed free kick, a few yards from the penalty area.
