According to Sunsport, Arsenal were left with no choice but to offer Luiz an extension owing to the string of injuries piling up in their defensive areas.
“We have no choice. We have to do it because of all the injuries we’ve had. It’s very complicated with the timing of it and some of the legal issues that are involved. We’re trying to resolve this and I’m confident I can keep them all,'' Mikel Arteta explained according to UK Sun.
Arsenal also confirmed the latest on their website as their fight to finish among the top four continues.
Meanwhile, Dani Ceballos, who is on loan from Real Madrid, signed a short extension on his deal to keep him at the Emirates until the end of the current season.
Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari who joined the Gunners on loan from Southampton and Brazilian club Flamengo will also have their deals made permanent.
Both players signed four-year deals and it is believed Mikel Arteta is keen on imposing his long-term technical strategy to give his team a greater chance at success.
