Arsenal has been dealt a blow, as forward Gabriel Jesus is set to undergo surgery on his World Cup knee injury which is set to keep him on the sidelines for a few months.

Jesus saw his World Cup campaign come to an abrupt end, after he suffered ligament damage in Brazil’s World Cup group-stage loss against Cameroon.

The 25-year-old forward could be ruled out for up to 3 months after his surgery, in what will be a big blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title push.

Jesus has become a key member of Mikel Arteta’s side, scoring 5 league goals to help propel the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table.

The Brazil forward is due to return to London on Sunday afternoon to begin his recovery, and has been proposed to return to full fitness around March next year.

Arsenal prepare replacement for Jesus

Arsenal could turn to loanee Folarin Balogun, as they seek to find the perfect replacement for injured Jesus, Just Arsenal has reported.

The Gunners have a recall option on the in-form Balogun, who is spending this season on loan at French Ligue 1 side Reims.

The Englishman has been one of the finest scorers in Europe over the last few months, and could now be recalled to help ease the goal burden.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Brazil landed in serious trouble at the 2022 World Cup, as Arsenal forward Jesus will now miss the rest of the tournament after sustaining a knee injury.

The former Man City star started for the Selecao in their 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Friday, but was substituted shortly after the hour mark.

Brazil's team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar revealed after the match that there were injury worries over both Jesus and Alex Telles.
