  • Thomas Partey says Ghana is ready for the cliffhanger against Uruguay in Qatar on Friday
  • The four-time African champions will surely go into the game with revenge on their minds
  • Ghana will need to avenge the quarter-final of 12 years ago to reach the knockout stages

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has revealed that he was still playing juvenile football when Ghana played Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The four-time African champions were painfully booted out of the tournament after a dramatic end to the quarter-final clash 12 years ago.

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez stopped a goal-bound header from Dominic Adiyiah with his hand, and was sent off as the Black Stars were awarded a penalty.

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan missed from the spot, as Suarez wildly celebrated while he walked off the tunnel. The West Africans ended up losing the game 4-2 on penalties.

Partey recalls that fateful night, as he was honing his skills as a young footballer on the streets of Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra.

“I was very young. I was playing colts in Ashaiman. It was a game of football, everything can happen. We had the chance to score the penalty. We were unlucky the ball did not go in, but I think we are going into this game well-prepared," he said during a pre-match interview with Pulse.

On Friday, Ghana will have the chance to avenge the defeat to the South Americans in the final Group H game of the World Cup.

Both nations have a chance to progress, with the Black Stars needing at least a draw and hoping Portugal beat South Korea in the other group game.

Partey's parents arrive in Qatar

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana and Arsenal star Partey was paid a visit by his parents at the Black Stars camp, after the game against Portugal.

Partey lasted the entire duration of the encounter, although the Black Stars lost narrowly to the Selecao in their opening Group H game.

In photos shared on social media, the Black Stars deputy captain is seen with his parents as they share the moment in delight.
