Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg appointed Unai Emery's assistant

Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Freddie Ljungberg as assistant first-team coach, replacing Steve Bould.

Ljungberg has impressed in his work with the Under-23s, having helped to bring through a talented crop of young players.

The former Arsenal midfielder will now work closely with club boss, Unai Emery, with the first team when the new season begins.

Bould, who has spent the last few years with the Gunners as assistant to former manager Arsene Wenger and Emery, will now take Ljungberg's place with the under-23s.

Reacting to his promotion, Ljungberg promised to continue his amazing work at the club seeks to challenge for titles.

“I’m really excited by this opportunity to continue helping develop and work with some of the great young players we have coming through in the first-team environment and to work alongside Unai and his coaching team to help Arsenal win trophies,” Ljungberg told the club’s website.
“I’m looking forward to working in this new structure and to pass on my experience and knowledge about what is needed to succeed at this level," he added.

His promotion evidences the former midfielder's growing influence and popularity within the club.

He was part of Arsenal's legendary Invincibles team in 2003-04 under Wenger, before starting his coaching career with the club's Under-16s.
