  • Arsenal legend has warned Chelsea that they will get hammered by the Gunners this weekend if they don't improve
  • Chelsea were thumped 4-1 by Brighton this past weekend and head into a tough London derby against league leaders Arsenal
  • The Gunners emphatically won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge last season and will look to repeat that

Arsenal icon Ian Wright said that Chelsea will get thumped by high-flying Gunners if they play as they did against Brighton.

The Blues suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat away at Brighton on Saturday, 29th October, their first defeat under new boss Graham Potter who was playing against his former side.

Potter started well for Chelsea and were unbeaten under the English tactician. However, Brighton had other ideas when they welcomed the Blues at the Amex.

Roberto de Zerbi's side spectacularly swept the Blues aside and were 3-0 up in the first half. According to the BBC, Chelsea's efforts to mount a second-half comeback were comfortably dealt with.

Wright warns Chelsea

Wright, 58, said if the Blues put up the same performance against Arsenal on Sunday, they will have a long day, according to Football London.

“It’s the way that they played, it was so disorganised. They will get beaten. They will get beaten quite heavily. It’s a worry, and he (Potter) has to sort it out quickly."

Wright added that if Potter can sort his team properly against Mikel Arteta's side, they can cause the Gunners problems.

“So, he has got the players to do that – why it’s still a tough game for Arsenal is because if Chelsea change that, then they are playing in a London derby, at home, then Arsenal are going to be properly tested. If they don’t, then Arsenal will beat them.”

Wright scored 156 goals for the Gunners in 264 appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

Wright's advice to Iwobi

Sports Brief earlier reported on Ian Wright urging former Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi to rejoin the Gunners after an impressive start with Everton this season.

Iwobi dumped the Gunners in 2019 to join Premier League rivals Everton, but he initially failed to justify his £35m transfer fee under Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez.

Iwobi has six assists this season for Everton in the Premier League.
