A section of Arsenal have called out Jermaine Pennant for claiming that the Gunners will bottle the Premier League title race.

The side's encouraging run of results has seen many suggest that the Artteta-tutored outfit have a big chance of winning the Premier League after 18 years of waiting.

Pennant mocks Arsenal's EPL hopes

However, Pennant, who played for Arsenal between 1999 and 2005, contends his former side's EPL title hopes will crumble.

According to the 39-year-old, reality will set in for Arsenal after Christmas, predicting that they could miss out on the top four altogether.

"I think that Arsenal, after Christmas, will cookie crumble like they did the year before to drop out of the Champions League spots. I'm gonna get criticised and battered by Arsenal fans being an ex-Gooner," Pennant told TalkSport.

And true to his prediction, Arsenal fans have come out guns blazing to call out the former footballer for his prediction.

One tweeted:

"Attention, digger. Always try to stay relevant by mentioning Arsenal negatively without any basis or anything to substantiate their claims."

A second joked:

"Whatever happens we won’t crumble as bad as his career did."

Another reckoned:

"Dear Jermaine Pennant. I write to tell you that you are wrong for saying Arsenal will cookie crumble. This team is doing something special. Just wait till the end of the season and you'll see how truly special this team is."

A fourth warned:

"Pennant you'll apologize to the fans and Arteta specifically because he'll prove you wrong."

While a fifth claimed:

"Who cares about pennant. I don’t even know you played for our club."

Arsenal fans fears about the 'Drake Curse'

Sports Brief earlier reported on Arsenal fans raising fears about their team's form after popular rapper Drake was pictured wearing an Arsenal jersey.

The supporters claimed the rapper's association with the club could 'transmit' his bad omen to them and deny them a chance to win the Premier League this season.

Drake is infamous for the 'Drake curse', which fans believe affects their team's results.
