Arsenal cemented their lead at the top of the Premier League standings after match week 8, thanks to their crucial win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners' title credentials were put to test o Saturday, October 1, during the North London Derby, a match they managed to use to prove a point.

Mikel Arteta's charges showed no signs of struggle as they ripped Spurs apart to extend their lead at the top momentarily.

Arsenal, who have racked up 21 points from eight matches, currently have a one-point advantage over second-placed Man City.

City demolished rivals Man United in their own outing on Sunday to close the gap on Arteta's men, with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden netting a hat-trick each to see off the Red Devils.

Despite Spurs' defeat against Arsenal, they still remain third on the standings with 17 points, three points ahead of Brighton, who settled for a 3-3 epic draw with Liverpool.

Chelsea are placed fifth on the log, thanks to their 2-1 hard-fought win over rivals Crystal Palace, in what was Graham Potter's first victory in charge of the Blues.

Man United, Liverpool biggest losers in match week 8

Man United and Liverpool were arguably the biggest losers of match week 8 after the two English teams dropped points.

United's defeat at the Etihad Stadium saw them drop to sixth on the standings with 12 points, with Jurgen Klopp's men now down to ninth after managing just 10 points from seven matches.

Elsewhere, Leicester City remain bottom on the standings after managing just a point from seven of their previous matches.

The Foxes will be hoping to get their campaign back on track when they face Nottingham Forest later on Monday, October 3.

Nottingham and Wolves are the other two sides occupying the relegation zone, with the latter dropping down after a 2-0 defeat against West Ham at the London Stadium.

Conte calls out VAR for Emerson red card

Earlier, Sports Brief reported of how Conte hit out at VAR after Tottenham’s derby defeat against Arsenal.

Speaking after the game, Conte boldly questioned the decision to dismiss Emerson, saying key decisions in England were different from Italy.

"In England, I have to be honest, it's very difficult because they don't have the same line [threshold]," he said.
