  • Arsenal made light work of Brentford to return to winning ways and most importantly reclaim the top spot on the Premier League log
  • After suffering their maiden defeat of the season at Manchester United, Mikel Arteta's men beat Brentford 3-0 to record a one-sided London derby victory
  • Two first-half goals from Jesus and Saliba in addition to a Fabio Vieira wonder strike ensured Arsenal grabbed the bragging rights in the London derby

Arsenal made a swift return to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and a maiden Arsenal strike from Fabio Vieira ensured Mikel Arteta's charges reclaimed the Premier League top spot.

Mikel Arteta reinstalled key midfielder Thomas Partey into the starting lineup following his return from injury while also handing a first Premier League start for Fabio Vieira.

The Frenchman produced a sterling bullet header to put the Gunners in front after just 17 minutes to silence the home crowd, who were vociferous in the early embers of the game.

Arsenal will double their lead shortly after Saliba's goal when Gabriel Jesus continued his fine start to life at Arsenal with his fourth goal of the season after 28 minutes.

There were no further additions to the scoreline as Arsenal comfortably protected their 2-0 lead with little to no fuss from Brentford.

Back from recess, Arsenal worsened the plight of their London rivals when Fabio Vieira, who was in the lineup for the injured Martin Odegaard, unleashed a longe-range pile driver to put the game beyond the home side four minutes after halftime.

Jesus nearly grabbed his personal brace but an alert Brentford goalie David Raya denied the former Manchester City striker with a point-blank save to avoid further damage.

Intermittent substitutions from both managers took the steam out of the game as Arsenal held on to secure their sixth win in seven outings.

Arsene Wenger backs Arsenal for Premier League title challenge

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has backed the club to challenge for the Premier League title under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta.

Wenger, who spent more than 20 years as the Gunners' boss has not been back at the club since his brutal sacking in 2018.

According to The Sun, the Frenchman has also steadfastly declined to comment on the team he left behind after his exit.
