Arsenal defender David Luiz has spoken for the first time on the sacking of Unai Emery with a hearty apology to the Spaniard.

Emery was sacked on Friday, November 29,with the Gunners' lack of win in their last seven matches in all competition.

Plaudits have termed the move the correct one, although it still did not take away the fact that some players genuinely had a good relationship with the 48-year old.

Among such players was David Luiz, who was one of Emery’s last minute high profile signings in the summer.

Luiz controversially signed for the Gunners from Chelsea, although he failed to live up to the hype at the Emirates thus far.

He took to social media hours after Emery’s sacking to issue a statement which in all honesty, had hints that he did not necessarily want the former PSG manager to leave.

In his tweet, the 32-year old blatantly admitted that the players “failed” their boss as he apologised for the poor run of form which ultimately earned Emery the sack.

“Sad day for everybody, especially because we let you down boss, sorry,” his tweet read.

Luiz described Emery as a great manager who was a “a hard worker, passionate for football and a big example always”.

While it was a class move from Luiz, he courted controversy a little when he said ,”results don’t matter”.

Notably, the Brasilian was one of the only players whose place in the Arsenal squad was practically guaranteed as Emery was fully aware of his defensive capabilities, having briefly worked with him while he was at French giants Paris St Germain.

The tactician only lasted 18 months as Arsenal manager after taking over from Arsene Wenger in May 2018.

He made a total of 12 signings and his closest glimpse at success was the Europa League final in May 2019 where the Gunners were thrashed by Chelsea who were then managed by current Juventus boss Mauricio Sarri.

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez also spoke on Emery's sacking on social media in a scathing statement which also seemed to blame the Arsenal squad.
