League Two side Crewe Alexandra have announced the signing of Nigerian eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo who joined the side on loan from Premier League side Arsenal.

Even though Arthur Okonkwo has played for England at U16, U17 and U18 levels, the 20-year-old is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles because he has Nigerian parents despite born in UK.

Arthur Okonkwo has been with Premier League side Arsenal since he was nine and has gone thorough football education at the North London side.

Arsenal are sending the goalkeeper out on loan so as for Arthur Okonkwo to get the needed experience and active playing time.

According to the confirmation by the Premier League side, they wished Arthur Okonkwo the very best at the League Two side.

Arsenal confirmation about Arthur Okonkwo

"The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined our academy aged eight and has continually impressed throughout the age groups.
"Having been promoted to the first-team at the beginning of last season, Arthur featured in our matchday squad seven times.
"We wish Arthur all the best for his loan spell at Crewe Alexandra and look forward to seeing his continued development.''

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian international Peter Olayinka, who recently welcomed the arrival of his child, scored two goals in Slavia Prague’s 7-0 home win over St. Joseph.

Thursday's second-round clash of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers saw the Super Eagles forward produce a spectacular performance on the night.

The 26-year-old scored his side’s opening goal as well as the third, helping the Czech Republic club advance into the third round 11-0 on aggregate.

Olayinka’s first goal came in the 18th minute after heading home a cross, and he later made it 3-0 with another header in the 28th minute.

Panathinaikos will be guests to Slavia Prague for the first leg on Thursday, August 3, while the return leg is billed for Thursday, 11 August.

Olayinka scored six goals in 24 league appearances for Slavia Prague. He was part of the Super Eagles squad that featured at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
