  • Arsenal will face tougher fixtures than their top four rivals Tottenham between now and the end of the season
  • The Gunners will have to cope with some big games without the services of Kieran Tierney, who is out for the remainder of the season
  • With one game in hand, Arsenal still have to face Man United, Chelsea and West Ham in their remaining games

Arsenal are set to endure a grueling run of fixtures between now and the end of the season as Mikel Arteta looks to reclaim the Champions League status of the North London club.

As it stands, Arsenal and North London rivals Tottenham look like the front runners in the race for the final Champions League spot, although a lot can happen between now and the end of the season.

Tottenham snuck into the top four this past weekend thanks to an emphatic win over Newcastle United, while Arsenal slipped to fifth after a below-par display saw the Gunners lose 3-0 to Crystal Palace.

In what is proving to be an epic battle for North London supremacy, both teams are locked on 54 points, although Arsenal has a game in hand.

As seen in the Monday night defeat to Crystal Palace, having games in hand does not always mean guaranteed points, and fourth spot is still up for grabs.

Sports Brief took a look at the remaining fixtures for the two North London sides, and based on the traditional ‘big six’ narrative, Arsenal seemingly have it harder than Tottenham.

Notably the Gunners still have to play the likes of Manchester United, West Ham, Chelsea and Tottenham between now and the end of the season.

In terms of top six clubs, Tottenham only have to face Liverpool and Arsenal

Tottenham’s remaining fixtures:

Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford, Leicester, Liverpool, Arsenal, Burnley Norwich

Arsenal’s remaining fixtures:

Brighton, Southampton, Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham, Leeds, Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton

North London derby date confirmed

Another interesting run-in in the race for a top four finish is the North London derby.

The original fixture was postponed amid a COVID-19 outbreak in the Arsenal camp, much to the chagrin of Tottenham boss, Antonio Conte.

However, a date between the two arch-rivals has finally been confirmed, with the derby now set for the night of Thursday, May 12, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
