  • Nicolas Pepe has only been relatively impressive at English Premier League club Arsenal and Paul Merson wants the Gunners to sell the player
  • Ex-Arsenal star Paul Merson insists that Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is a better option, urging Arsenal to sign him during the summer transfer window
  • The Sky Sports pundit says Zaha is still ambitious to play at the very top, but he does not think there is a big club out there waiting for the player

Former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has urged Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to sell Nicolas Pepe as soon as the summer transfer window opens, Daily Star reports.

According to the former Premier League star, the Gunners should endeavour to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace as they have made efforts to land him earlier.

It was gathered that Zaha would be willing to dump Palace if the Gunners approach him again as he earlier indicated his interest as well.

Merson says he believes Zaha would not stay at Palace forever as he thinks the forward will make a good impact at the Emirates Stadium.

He said:

“Zaha wanted to join them and I don't think he'll stay at Palace forever. I think he would have made a difference to Arsenal. He's better than Nicolas Pepe. He draws players towards him and makes things happen.
It's a good time for Mikel Arteta to buy him. You'd get him a bit cheaper and he's a better player now than he was when they tried before. I think Pepe goes this summer if they can find a buyer, and sooner or later they will try Gabriel Martinelli up front.
“So I definitely think there is room for another winger like Zaha in the team, and I think he'd get lots of minutes. I think Zaha makes much better decisions these days. He commits players. And the way Arsenal play, he would free up space for others.

Man Utd, Arsenal chase AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that English Premier League giants Manchester United are said to be interested in the signature of AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham who is in staggering form this season.

The former Chelsea forward is said to be attracting interest ahead of the summer transfer window as Arsenal are said to be monitoring his situation as well.

The England international dumped Chelsea at the start of the season to join the Italian club in a deal said to be worth around £34million, and has made an instant impact in Serie A.
