  • Amazulu coach Benni McCarthy has demanded that he and assistants be given their due respect for their achievements
  • Since being appointed by Usuthu in December 2020, he has helped steer the team from relegation fodder into a highly competitive outfit
  • The lovers and haters came out in full force after his comment, with some calling for him to quieten down, while others gave him his due

Amazulu coach Benni McCarthy has demanded that he be respected for what he has achieved with the club.

McCarthy was speaking to the media via a virtual press conference after Usuthu were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Orlando Pirates. The team opened the scoring early via Luvuyo Memela, before Orlando Pirates hit back with a brace from Kwame Peprah.

The clash was significant in that the winner would have climbed up into second place. For good measure, Amazulu had put the brakes on the seemingly unbeatable Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday, defeating them 1-0.

Since being appointed by Amazulu in December 2020, McCarthy and his assistant have performed something of a miracle, transforming a team that lingered in the relegation zone to one that was very competitive.

Despite the setback at Orlando Stadium, the bullish McCarthy said:

"No one could have achieved what we've done. Not that I'm arrogant, but for what he have achieved, we should get knighted. Sir Benni Makhathini, Sir [Moeneeb] Josephs, Sir Siyabonga Nomvethe, Sir Vasili Manousakis... we deserve to be knighted for what we've done with Amazulu."

McCarthy refused to rest on his laurels, hinting to the club's management that more financial freedom given to him in acquiring higher quality players would boost the club to greater heights.

"This Amazulu team ain't no pushover for anyone. For any team," he concluded.

Social media was a crime scene in response to McCarthy's assertion.

Alfred Modric said:

"He is right. He has proven in many ways that he is great coach. As a legend of the game, he should be given Bafana. Not that dying old man."

Pro West said:

"Mxm. Stupidity. Just by beating Sundowns now he has archive something. This guy isn't funny."

Sunny Jobe said:

"That's his only major problem. If he wins just once he becomes too talkative. Just imagine if he can coach the Big Three and win five games in a row!"

@Mzwe Mtho said:

"I respect Benni and his accomplishments. They took the team from being Top 8 contenders to championship material."

Legendary boxer Dingaan Thobela attends #FamevsClout, challenges Mzansi to fight

The great Dingaan Thobela was back in the public eye as one of the special guests at the infamous #FamevsClout boxing match between hip-hop heavyweight Cassper Nyovest and YouTuber Slik Talk.

Nyovest put the proverbial paws on the rabble-rousing Slik although he failed to get the knockout he sorely desired in the exhibition match.

Thobela, a former three-time world champion in two weight division, told hip-hop star Slikour that he hoped the event would reignite interest in boxing, particularly among the younger generation.
