  • AmaZulu have appointed Brandon Truter as a replacement for Benni McCarthy in an interim position
  • Brandon Truter was previously the coach of Swallows FC and was considered a draw master while at the club
  • Football fans have reacted to the news of Truter's appointment, noting the irony that McCarthy was let go because of his numerous draws

Not every football fan understands the logic behind AmaZulu’s recent appointment.

The Usuthu wasted no time in replacing Benni McCarthy, after he was suddenly and surprisingly dismissed by the KwaZulu-Natal club.

As reported by Sport24, Brandon Truter was hired as an interim coach to replace McCarthy and will remain at the club until the end of the season. AmaZulu expects to have found a permanent coach before the end of April.

The club also announced the appointment on its official Twitter account.

Truter was last in charge of Swallows in 2021 but earned the title of a draw specialist while at the cub, IOL noted.

Football fans have found the irony in the appointment, as one of the reasons McCarthy was let go was because of the number of draws the club achieved. AmaZulu have drawn 14 games this season and are six draws short of tying the all-time record.

@MuziBucs

I’m a big fan of Brandon Truter, there’s not much difference between him and Benni when it comes to the style of play but I feel Benni lost it when he introduced the 433 which has never worked for any team in SA. I expect Truter to go back to 4231, he remain the coach next season."

@DJsyaro:

"Too many draws might be the reason Benni McCarthy lost his job and guess what AmaZulu have brought in a DRAW MASTER in Brandon Truter"

@WasOnceShort:

"Brandon Truter is a draw specialist. AmaZulu are not serious"

AmaZulu and Benni McCarthy part ways, Usuthu Chairman Sandile Zungu confirms that the club needed a change

Benni McCarthy is no longer the coach of AmaZulu Football Club. AmaZulu confirmed earlier today that they had parted ways with the 44-year-old, but that the decision was an amicable one, Sports Brief reported.

Benni joined the KwaZulu-Natal based side in December 2020 and led them to second spot in the DStv Premiership. When he joined the club, they were languishing in 13th, iDiski Times reported. Benni also led the team to their first CAF Champions League campaign.

This season has been a different story, though, as AmaZulu have drawn 14 games and sit in the ninth position. The record for most draws in a season is 20 and belongs to Swallows FC. In explaining why the club let go of McCarthy, Chairman Sandile Zungu explained that the Usuthu needed change, KickOff reported.
