  • Fans poked fun at Kaizer Chiefs on social media as the club fails to sign another player during the transfer window

Kaizer Chiefs find themselves at the centre of more transfer news, this time angering Amazulu in the process.

Chiefs tried to sign midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe from Usuthu by offering the KZN club two other players in return.

Amazulu Chairman Sandile Zungu confirmed to KickOff that Chiefs had offered Amazulu two players in exchange for Sithebe but he turned down the offer because the club was not interested in signing 'rejects'.

“The other two players we rejected, we don't need them. I won't mention their names, they may be good for other teams but they are not good enough for AmaZulu.
"We are not a dumping ground for other team's rejects, AmaZulu of old and AmaZulu of today - our brand is very important and we need to protect it,” he told KickOff.

The Citizen confirmed that Sithebe has signed a pre-contract with Chiefs and will join them in June when the season ends.

The Amakhosi were looking to secure the player's services during the January transfer window though after losing out Teboho Mokoena's signature to Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs were accused of not doing enough to sign Mokoena. They were also mocked by Royal AM in their pursuit of Victor Letsoalo.

With Chiefs failing to secure a big name signing thus far in the transfer window, fans couldn't help but poke fun at the Amakhosi on social media.

@onthatilemodis5:

"If teams like Amazulu doesnt see quality in players from #CovidFc moss things are bad at that FC? Imagine calling players from #Chiefs as "Rejects"?"

@kingzee_89:

"How the mighty has fallen. Chiefs has rejects playing for them"

@Ernesto_kby:

"He rejected pawn shop strategy"

@Ckhola1745:

"Kaizer Chiefs must take itself serious and start paying for best players. Gone are the days where people used to just go to the team because they grew up supporting it."

Kaizer Chiefs responds to Teboho Mokoena's agent's comments, deny not doing enough to try and sign player

In other transfer news, Kaizer Chiefs' communications manager Vina Maphosa has spoken out about the Amakhosi's interest in Teboho Mokoena and why it didn't work out, Sports Brief reported.

Maphosa's comments came after Teboho Mokoena's agent Glyn Binkin said that other clubs, including Chiefs, showed interest in the player but didn't pursue it further. Teboho Mokoena has since signed for Mamelodi Sundowns, Soccer Laduma reported.

Maphosa though has commented on Binkin's statement saying that just because Mokoena didn't sign for Chiefs doesn't mean that Amakhosi didn't try hard enough to sign the midfielder. Fans on social media were critical of Chiefs and other Premier Soccer League teams for not doing more to keep up with Sundowns signing of players.
