Alejandro Garnacho's future at Stamford Bridge appears increasingly uncertain, with Chelsea reportedly open to selling the Argentine winger less than a year after his deadline-day arrival from Manchester United.

Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a summer sale of winger Alejandro Garnacho, a move that would end a turbulent first season at the club following his £40 million transfer from Manchester United in September 2025.

The 21-year-old joined the Blues on deadline day but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under the club’s current setup. Across all competitions this season, Garnacho has featured in just 21 of Chelsea’s 51 matches from the beginning, a stark contrast to the 77 starts he accumulated across his final two seasons at Old Trafford.

His numbers in front of goal tell a similarly mixed story. The Argentine has contributed eight goals and four assists in all competitions, though half of those goal contributions came against lower-league opponents in cup fixtures. In the Premier League specifically, Garnacho has found the net only once for Chelsea — a return that falls well short of expectations for a player acquired at that price point.

According to reports, Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior, who was appointed on January 6, has reservations about the former Manchester United winger. Since taking charge, Rosenior has handed Garnacho only four Premier League starts, consistently preferring Pedro Neto on the left flank. The club’s decision to sign winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund — currently sidelined with a hamstring injury — further signals that Garnacho may not be central to their long-term plans.

The relationship between Garnacho and the club appears to have deteriorated in recent weeks. The winger reportedly deleted all Chelsea-related content from his Instagram account, a move widely interpreted as a sign of discord between the player and the club. In a separate development, Garnacho also hinted in a recent interview at regrets over his behaviour during the final months of his time at Manchester United.

Despite the difficult season, Garnacho’s appetite for the London move was well documented. According to reports, his agents visited Stamford Bridge as early as January 2025 — a full seven months before the transfer was completed — underlining how keenly the player sought the switch at the time.

Should Chelsea proceed with a sale in the summer transfer window, it would represent a significant financial risk for the club, given the short turnaround on a £40 million investment. Chelsea have been active in the transfer market in recent seasons under their current ownership structure, and a decision to move on Garnacho would raise further questions about the club’s recruitment strategy and player development pathway.

No official statement has been issued by Chelsea regarding Garnacho’s future, and any potential sale remains unconfirmed at this stage.
