Akor Adams Demands More Goals as Sevilla Fight LaLiga Relegation Battle Against Levante

Nigerian striker Akor Adams has refused to declare his 2025/26 LaLiga campaign a success, despite posting numbers that rank among the most productive by an African player in the Spanish top flight this season. Speaking in an exclusive interview facilitated by LaLiga, the 26-year-old was candid about the gap between where he stands individually and where he needs to be.

“No, I wouldn’t say I’ve achieved my set target for the season because as much as I have personal goals, I also build my goals around the team, around where we finish in the league,” Adams said. “And we are still working on that. So in a couple of weeks, we’ll see how things are going. Personally, I want to score more goals and create more assists to help the team. And yeah, that’s my goal. Yes, I’ve had high moments. And I’m grateful the low moments are not as much as the high. So it’s been good.”

The Super Eagles forward has contributed eight goals and three assists in LaLiga this season, bringing his total goal contributions for Sevilla to 11 across all competitions. He has also received a nomination for the LaLiga African MVP award, placed alongside 19 other continental standouts whose performances in Spain’s top division have drawn recognition from the league.

Among his standout moments was a decisive winning goal against Atletico Madrid — the club managed by a squad that includes Ademola Lookman — a result that elevated Adams’ profile in European football. Yet the striker himself has been clear that individual milestones carry limited value if Sevilla cannot secure their top-flight status.

That context makes the club’s current league position all the more pressing. Sevilla are 17th in LaLiga, sitting just one point above the relegation zone. A drop to the Segunda Division would represent a significant setback for a club of Sevilla’s stature — five-time UEFA Europa League winners — and would have direct consequences for Adams’ own development at this level.

Sevilla’s fixture on April 23 against Levante represents one of the more immediate opportunities to create breathing room in the standings. Adams travels to the match in form, having scored the winner against Atletico Madrid in the previous round of fixtures. While Levante may appear a more manageable opponent on paper, relegation battles rarely follow predictable outcomes.

For Adams, every goal scored in the remaining weeks of the season now serves a dual purpose: advancing his personal tally toward a benchmark he has set for himself, and contributing directly to Sevilla’s survival effort. The two objectives are, as he outlined, inseparable in his thinking.

The broader significance of Adams’ season extends to the Nigerian national team setup. The Super Eagles carry considerable depth in attacking positions, but a forward who is regularly contributing in LaLiga — one of Europe’s five major leagues — under genuine competitive pressure strengthens Nigeria’s options at the highest level. Adams’ nomination for the LaLiga African MVP award further underlines that his output has not gone unnoticed beyond the club level.

At 26, Adams is entering what is typically a striker’s most productive period. How Sevilla’s season concludes — and how Adams performs in the games that remain — will shape both his standing within Spanish football and his trajectory heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup cycle.
