But Mohammed Kudus pulled one back to reduce the deficit to 3-4 with 18 minutes left.

However, in the 78th minute, Bassey was adjudged to have lunged a clumsy tackle on Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari after VAR was used to review his challenge.

The former Rangers left-back was initially shown a yellow card, but after a review, it was upgraded to a red card.

Ajax complete signing of Calvin Bassey

Meanwhile, Ajax Amsterdam reached an agreement to sign Nigerian international Calvin Bassey in a deal worth €27million.

It was gathered that the Eredivisie giants have agreed with Glasgow Rangers to pay €27million as transfer fees for the services of the Nigerian defender.

Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claimed the 22-year-old is scheduled to undergo medical ahead of his switch to the Dutch club.

It was further gathered that the contract entails a €22million flat fee with €5m add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause of any future sale, which is big money for a £230,000 outlay in 2020.

Osimhen to continue the use of face shield

Sports Brief earlier reported that the doctor at Italian club Napoli, Roberto Ruggiero, has stated that Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen will continue to wear a protective mask because it gives him a sense of security.

In November 2021, the striker suffered a facial injury after colliding with Milan Skriniar of Inter during a Serie A encounter.

And ahead of the coming season, the club doctor says the 23-year-old star will continue to wear the protective mask.
