Players of Accra Hearts of Oak lifted forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh aloft in excitement immediately his named was mentioned as a member of the Black Stars team for the World Cup.

Afriyie Barnieh is one of two home-based players named in Ghana coach Otto Addo's team for the tournament in Qatar.

In a video posted on social media, the players including coach Slavko Matic celebrated the moment with their talisman.

The former Ghana U20 captain has been a regular invitee to the Black Stars team but has barely had game time.

Afriyie Barnieh will travel to Doha on Tuesday to join the rest of his Black Stars teammates as preparations begin for the tournament.

The Black Stars will engage Switzerland in a friendly on Thursday before their World Cup opener against Portugal on November 24.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Daniel Afriyie Barnieh's mother broke down in tears after her son made the final squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Hearts of Oak talisman was named in coach Otto Addo's team for the World Cup following his good run of form for the Phobians.

In a video posted on social media, Madam Comfort Konadu could not hold back her tears as he expressed delight in the achievement of her son.

Otto Addo has announced his final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At a press conference in Accra, the 47-year-old named his team with several of the notable names making his squad.

Conspicuously missing are Joseph Paintsil of KRC Genk, Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht and Felix Afena-Gyan.
