A rare photo of legendary Stephen Appiah playing for Ghana Premier League giants Accra Hearts of Oak has surfaced on the internet.

Appiah, credited for leading Ghana to its maiden appearance at the FIFA World Cup, played for the capital-based outfit between 1995 and 1997.

Although the now 41-year-old retired footballer spent only two seasons at the club, he is regarded as a cult hero by most faithful for his diligence and dedication even at a tender age.

He is fondly remembered for his exploits in Italy, where he featured for Serie A giants Juventus while also excelling with the national team.

In a photo posted on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, Appiah beautifully clad in the jersey of Hearts of Oak, posed to the cameraman ahead of a league game.

Appiah was an integral member of the Juventus team back in 2004, but with the opportunity to represent his nation at the Olympic Games, the then 22-year-old was at crossroads.

Appiah took to Twitter to express his joy as well as congratulate Sulley Muntari for his decision to return to the Ghana Premier League.
