The preliminary report tabled by the committee led by Michael Kimoko revealed that over KSh 550 million grants which the Sports Ministry had allocated to FKF from 2017 could have been looted.

Kimoko's team also discovered KSh 8.5 million fictitious withdrawals from the FKF's account to federations' president Nick Mwendwa's account between March and May 2021.

Mwendwa team was also at pains to explain the transfer of KSh 29.5 million from the federation's bank account to a payee identified as Peter Kipchirchir between April 16 to May 31.

Here is the summary of the report findings;

1. KSh 513.9 million grants allocated to the federation from 2017, no cash book nor payment vouchers

2. KSh 218.8 million that was allocated to the men's national football team, Harambee Stars, to facilitate their participation in the 2019 AFCON

11. KSh 8.5 million transfer to Mwendwa's private account

12. Payment of KSh 29.5 million to Peter Chirchir between April and May, 2021

Recommendations

In a report tabled to the Sports CS, Kimoko and his team recommended that no new bank account should be opened by FKF unless authorised by the caretaker committee led by retired justice Aaron Ringera.

The government was also advised not to release any funds to FKF unless and until the previous funds are fully accounted for.

Mwendwa arrested

The troubled football administrator was on Friday, November 12, arrested by plain-clothed officers in Nairobi.

The officers pounced on him as he was visiting the Harambee Stars team at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Westlands.

Mwendwa was reportedly meeting with the Harambee Stars team ahead of their final World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda scheduled for Monday, November 15.

Mwendwa was taken to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road where he was expected to spend the weekend.
