The caretaker committee tasked with steering Kenyan football has broken its silence amid a growing suspicion over the promise to grant financial support to clubs.

The committee had promised KSh 300,000 and KSh 250,000 to clubs in the top tier and the NSL respectively.

But more than two weeks after the grants promise was made by the Aaron Ringera-led body, clubs are yet to receive the financial support.

At the start of December, the caretaker committee released the following statement:

“We received your requests for funding from FKF Caretaker Committee to help with some logistics of resumption of league fixtures. We note, however, that because of the limited resources available at this moment in time, for a start the FKF Caretaker Committee has agreed that it will provide Sh300,000 for each of the Premier League Clubs and Sh250,000 for each of the National Super League football clubs,"

Two weeks on and while clubs are yet to receive any funds, the committee took to quell any tension that may have arisen from their promise.

In a presser held on Tuesday, December 14, Anthony Isayi, the caretaker treasurer said the delays were simply down to some logistical challenges.

“We are working on logistics currently. We are in the process of opening a bank account which of course requires a lot of clearance both from the Ministry and the Treasury. As soon as the logistical part is completed, we will be able to wire money to clubs to support them with the logistics as soon as possible. As it stands, they have not received the money,” Isavi said.

The task ahead for caretaker committee

Weeks into the new tenure, the 15-man caretaker committee seems to have its work cut out.

While the committee has overseen the return of football, there is still a sense that the 15-member team does not have a firm grip on the happenings in the local sport.

In particular, there is concern on the disbursement of funds to the most basic of services.
